Although it's up to 25 km offshore, Ba Ham lake is still interested by many tourists and nature lovers from a long time ago. The book "Merveille de Monde", published in 1938, specializing the introduction of scenic Ba Ham lake, described it as follows: Visit Ba Ham lake, you will have the same impression as to Luon Cave, but the landscape here are much nicer. The entrance of Ba Ham lake does not let you in as easily as that of  Luon cave, but that's true fun to go sightseeing. The semi-circular entrance opens on flat side of a cliff in the north-west of the island, about 4-5m from the sea surface, there exactly is a current run into this lake curving from Cua Van.
From the entrance, visitors will enter the first trench with a forest of stalactites in purple, pink, blue, white ... decumbent to the sea the roots of trees. The cave bottom is very deep with crystal-clear water that lets you see shoals of fishes swimming around. Go deeper into the cave about 100 m, you will meet a flow of light shining down from the cave ceiling showing many kinds of orchids clinging onto the cliffs, viva trees scattered in the rocks, bamboo leaves like soft ponytail sprouting in clumps. The second trench has a old star fruit tree growing on the southeast walls which blooms every year. In this cave, the golden monkeys, flying squirrels, gray head parrot... gathered on the branches. The third trench, is seperated from the second by a cliff, and you have to navigate through a low tunnel for about 5 minutes. It is inhabited by bats, butterflies... In the quiet space, you can only hear the sound of water murmuring by the oars. It's like being in a swimming pool but at the bottom of a well so deep, so true, so amazing Halong Bay.
